Casa Seta Transformation

PuccioCollodoro Architetti has transformed two apartments in Palermo into a single, expansive residence named Casa Seta. The project aimed to fuse the spaces into a unified home that meets the compositional and functional demands of the clients. Notable for its sleek, modern design, the apartment offers expansive views of Palermo and a blend of contemporary aesthetics and geometric rigor.

Interior Elements of Casa Seta

The heart of the apartment remodel is a large open-plan living space. Entered via the foyer, the area encompasses a sizeable kitchen with a Marquinia black marble island, a dining room, and a living area. This central space is designed to balance elegance and functionality. The natural light that floods Casa Seta highlights the dark wood and natural oak finishes in the living area, contributing to this effect.

Unique among the spaces are the laundry room, where designer whimsy prevails with pops of pink, and a large custom-made unit. Starting at the entrance and travelling along the kitchen wall to the fireplace, the unit maximizes storage by providing ample concealed stowaway space, serving as a stylish and functional thread within the apartment.

The modern designer interiors are accented by hand-selected furniture. The curated pieces create comfortable settings adaptive to daily living.

Design Challenges

The apartment’s 80s era trumpet structure presented a challenge during the remodel. Additionally, low ceilings complicated the design process. The team integrated structural work into the scheme by concealing pillars in wall panelling. The Cancun’s ducts run through carefully detailed lowered ceilings that shield infrastructure from view.

Casa Seta’s materials, including quality finishes and customized built-ins, set the residence apart. The “perfect example” of how intelligent design can surmount structural challenges, the residence “enhances every detail,” according to the architecture studio.

Design Approach

Design decisions prioritized style and ambience throughout the apartment. Warm hues and bold colour choices enhance the relatively small volume of the space by dividing larger areas into functional mini-living zones. Maximizing use without cluttering the interiors or overloading the visually compact spaces, the materials create rich textures while serving practical needs.

The solution aligned with the owner’s wishlist, which specified connected open environments and a balanced layout, avoiding over-filling spaces.

The project’s attention to detail is especially evident in the carefully considered lighting scheme. Natural light has a large role due to the apartment’s dual orientation. Meanwhile, accent lighting integrated throughout guarantees optimal atmosphere and illumination.

The villa’s double-exposure orientation contributes to the “ideal” daylighting by creating a light environment drawn from sky and city. The kitchen island contrasts with the charcoal floor and metallic accents with sleek marquina black marble for a grounding effect.
