Lagar Oliq Complex by Play Arquitetura

Nestled in São Bento do Sapucaí, SP, Brazil, the Lagar Oliq Complex, designed by Play Arquitetura, now features a restaurant. Echoing the design language of a trio of structures on-site, the eatery was executed over two years and completed in 2021. The newest structure wraps around the older ones, creating an elaborate assembly described in detail by Play Arquitetura.

Play Arquitetura designs Lagar Oliq Complex

The Lagar Oliq Complex in São Bento do Sapucaí, SP, Brazil, consists of structures designed by Play Arquitetura over almost a decade. This ensemble began with the construction of a small shed in 2013 and ended with the completion of the restaurant in 2021.

Inspiration and materials

The design of the Lagar Oliq complex was inspired by the functional character of the service buildings already present on the Santo Antônio farm. These buildings are characterized by a gable roof with painted eaves and gutters in bold colors.

The choice of materials was influenced by the rustic and natural surroundings of the site. Local stone was used for the lower part of the restaurant, while the upper areas were roughly plastered and painted the same dark green used for the Lagar.

Restaurant design and furnishings

The restaurant consists of two main volumes separated by a covered pergola that provides access to the restaurant and store. A lower volume houses the tasting room, and a semi-buried plinth houses changing rooms, storage, cold rooms and an auxiliary kitchen.

In addition to the covered areas, the design features a north-facing balcony and an uncovered terrace with views of the valley and mountains. The windows on the west side are clad with wooden slats to control the sunlight.

Additional structures and connections

In addition to the restaurant, the complex includes a concrete and masonry service building that forms a terrace with panoramic views of the olive grove. The extension is connected to the lagar by a glass-covered wooden pergola.

At the beginning of the construction of the restaurant, Play Arquitetura also designed a small nursery in the form of a carousel made of wooden slats, which has an autonomous and light form and is independent of the other structures.

Guarantee of quality work

Attention to detail was paramount in both the construction work and the carpentry and metalwork, which was carried out by local professionals. The excellent finish of both the larger restaurant and the nursery is testament to the skill of these professionals and the care taken in the execution of this project.

Overall, the Lagar Oliq complex, designed by Play Arquitetura, demonstrates a thoughtful approach to blending the architecture with the surrounding landscape while meeting the functional requirements of the site.
