Douglas-Fir Wood as Mono-Material

The space is characterized by the exclusive use of Douglas-Fir, creating a unified identity without sacrificing discovery and surprise. Its biophilic design aims to instill a sense of refuge from the outside world, even when nature is physically out of reach.

The luminous hues and ridges inherent in the wood radiate energy and warmth, contributing to the overall aesthetic coherence of the apartment. The design offers moments of exploration within a cohesive structure.

Innovative modular design and continuous flow

The Urban Refuge apartment develops in an L-shaped sequence, with each space merging perfectly with the next. This continuity in design shows the company’s commitment to innovation and pushing the boundaries of residential design.

Baranowitz + Kronenberg used non-traditional methods to reorient the compact 47-square-meter space for optimal utility. Their approach amplifies each section into a useful, purposeful design.
