Casa Suna Holiday Home in Mexico Features Desert-inspired Patios
Casa Suna is a beachside vacation home, designed by YDR estudio, located in La Ribera, Mexico. The villa’s local stone walls and beige concrete tones draw on the simple palette of its surroundings, from the ocean to the desert. Organised around a central circular patio, which “invites gathering and contemplation”, the open-plan living spaces enjoy a cohesive connection to the outdoors, thanks to a serene, warm-toned material selection, characterised by wooden accents and elegant travertine marble countertops.
YDR Design Studio Casa Suna in La Ribera
Situated between the beach and the mountains, Casa Suna in La Ribera, Mexico, symbolizes serene luxury and harmonious design. Designed by YDR studio as a vacation home, the property is a captivating blend of natural beauty and sophisticated architecture, ideally positioned to offer a unique vacation experience.
As guests approach, they are greeted by a functional yet elegant entrance. A striking cactus wall introduces two mirrored modules flanking the entrance: a car garage and a service house, each seamlessly integrated into the overall aesthetic. Behind these modules, desert-inspired terraces on either side lead visitors down a path that leads to the main house.

Local stone blends the Suna House into the surrounding sand
The exterior walls of the main house and units are clad in local stone that blends with the surrounding sand. Approaching the main house, the roof slopes upward, drawing the eye skyward. The architectural palette complements the coastal setting with beige concrete that mimics the natural color of the sand and warm wood accents that reflect the nearby desert landscape. According to YDR Studio, this choice of materials enhances the integration of the house with its surroundings.
The house has six bedrooms, all designed in a neutral palette. The master bedroom overlooks the beach, while the second overlooks the circular courtyard. Two other bedrooms share a bathroom with a bunk bed and overlook the desert-inspired courtyard at the back of the house. The bathrooms are finished with travertine marble, which maintains the home’s material feel while adding a clean, elegant touch.
A fire in the heart of the house
The house is carefully arranged around a central circular courtyard that serves as the heart of the home. This unique design element is not only a focal point, but a versatile space for relaxation, meditation and social interaction. At the center of the circular space is a fire pit surrounded by a circular sofa, inviting people to gather and contemplate. The open design of the terrace frames the night sky and offers an unparalleled vantage point for stargazing under the soft glow of the fire.

Around the central courtyard, the home’s spaces open up from the entrance to the beach terrace, allowing for cross ventilation and seamless integration between spaces. At the front of the property, overlooking the beach, the social space extends outward with a large terrace. Here, a series of sculptural concrete cubes form the pool, Jacuzzi and stairs that descend directly to the sand. This design reinforces the connection to the beach and ensures a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living.
This coastal retreat in La Ribera is more than a vacation home; it is a place designed to embrace the natural beauty of its surroundings, offering an exceptional blend of relaxation, luxury and connection to the star-filled sky and tranquil beach.
