In the historic center of Ploaghe, Italy, domECO has designed a modern house featuring a dialogue between old and new architecture. The project utilises balanced volumes and carefully placed openings to breathe life into an existing building, creating a warm, sophisticated interior with an elegant and understated material palette. Every detail is designed to ensure easy movement and comfort across all levels of the home.
Preserving Original Character
In the historic center of Ploaghe, a single-family home has been completely transformed through a thoughtful renovation and vertical extension. The project aims to breathe new life into an existing building, turning it into a bright, modern residence while preserving its original character.
New Upper Floor
The addition of a new upper floor, dedicated to the sleeping area, redefines the proportions of the house in a harmonious way, blending seamlessly with the surrounding urban fabric. Carefully placed openings and balanced volumes help create a dialogue between the existing structure and the new intervention.
Open-plan Living Area
At the heart of the project is the living area: a large, open-plan space that brings together the lounge, dining room, and reading corners in a fluid and welcoming layout. Skylights and full-height openings allow natural light to flood the interiors, enhancing the sense of space and openness.
Elegant and Understated Interior Palette
The interior palette is elegant and understated: herringbone wood flooring, light-toned paneling, custom furniture, and refined materials such as marble and brushed metal. Every detail is designed to balance comfort and aesthetics, creating a warm, sophisticated atmosphere.
Relaxed and Harmonious Environment
Integrated lighting, built-in furnishings, and soft neutral colors contribute to a relaxed and harmonious environment, where each space flows naturally into the next.
Internal Layout and Vertical Circulation
Special attention was also given to the internal layout and vertical circulation, ensuring easy movement and comfort across all levels of the home.
