Morning light filters through sheer white curtains, softening the outline of the terrace beyond and turning the living room into a gentle glow. A pale wood floor runs underfoot, drawing the eye toward a mustard-yellow sofa and its curved rug companion.

Apartment Lavrica is a compact house in Lavrica, Slovenia, reimagined by Studio Formica as a warm, contemporary home centered on daily living. The project leans on a restrained palette of wood, soft textiles, and light neutrals that link living, dining, and sleeping areas. Color, art, and plants add character in measured bursts so each room feels personal without visual clutter.

Living Room As Lounge

In the living area, the long low sofa in muted yellow anchors the room and sets a relaxed, slightly playful mood. A rounded rug in light tones breaks the linear geometry and defines a zone for conversation around a small black coffee table. Opposite, a wall-mounted media cabinet in pale wood carries the television while keeping the floor clear, so the room reads open and easy to navigate.

Above the cabinet, open shelving holds books, ceramics, and trailing greenery that introduce height and texture. The sheer curtain wall behind balances privacy with daylight, casting soft shadows over the oak floor. A dense gallery wall beside the sofa layers framed artwork of varied scales, giving this everyday corner an almost salon-like intimacy.

Dining At The Threshold

The dining table sits between living room and kitchen, acting as both connector and pause. A slim rectangular table in dark wood pairs with upholstered chairs on black metal legs, a combination that reads light yet grounded. Overhead, a sculpted wood pendant drops warmth and brings a human-scaled focal point to the middle of the room.

Natural light enters from a glazed door nearby, brightening the table surface and echoing the rhythm of the living room windows. Everyday objects on the tabletop, from a bowl of lemons to clear glassware, punctuate the restrained colors with small bursts of brightness. This threshold zone becomes the center for shared meals, work, or conversation without visual barriers to the rest of the interior.

Kitchen In Wood And Grey

The kitchen stretches along one wall, its composition divided between warm wood fronts above and smooth grey cabinetry below. Tall units wrap the corner, concealing storage and appliances so the room stays calm even when in use. A light-toned backsplash with subtle pattern adds enough movement to keep the run from feeling flat.

Hardware remains minimal, letting the paneling read as a continuous surface. Integrated lighting under the upper cabinets brightens the worktop, making the cooking zone feel practical yet aligned with the living area. The restrained palette allows everyday things—fresh flowers by the sink or fruit on the counter—to stand out without visual noise.

Bedroom With Gentle Timber

In the bedroom, a full-width timber headboard anchors the bed and folds into built-in nightstands. The linear grain of the wood contrasts with crisp white bedding and a soft grey throw, creating a quiet, tactile composition. Small reading lights mount directly to the headboard, freeing the bedside surfaces for books, framed photos, and a single bright sunflower in a ceramic vase.

Walls remain spare, allowing the warmth of the wood to carry the room. Storage tucks below the nightstands, supporting daily routines without visual bulk. The result is a compact yet composed retreat that continues the project’s language of pale timber, gentle textiles, and carefully edited color.

As daylight shifts across the floors and cabinets, the consistent palette ties each room back to the next. Studio Formica’s interventions stay close to the everyday rituals of sitting, cooking, and resting. Apartment Lavrica reads as a small, lived-in home where wood, color, and light quietly shape how each room feels from morning into night.
