Kelly anchors a mountainside in Cervinia, Italy, where Caracter Architettura d’Interni crafts a chalet around timber, stone, and long views of the valley. The project leans into rustic warmth while threading in contemporary lines, from glazed partitions to tailored upholstery, so winter evenings and summer mornings share the same easy comfort. Every room folds into the next, forming a quietly cohesive retreat shaped for alpine life.

Low sun pours across rough stone and honeyed timber, catching on fur throws and the glass of a corner fireplace. A quiet crackle from the hearth answers the muffled landscape outside.

This chalet, Kelly, is a mountain retreat in Cervinia, Italy, where Caracter Architettura d’Interni composes an interior around texture, warmth, and close views of the alpine slope. Timber, stone, and soft textile layers carry through every room, creating a continuous palette that shifts from social areas to intimate suites. The focus stays on what people touch and see at arm’s length: grain, weave, sheen, and the glow of light on each surface.

Framing Hearth And Gathering

The living room orbits a glass-fronted fireplace set into a low stone plinth, with stacked logs tucked neatly into a recess nearby. Deep sofas in textured brown upholstery sit almost level with the hearth, wrapped in wool blankets and shaggy cushions that soften the muscular timber beams above. A compact table with a dark stone top grounds the seating group, while a lighter corner bench extends the room toward a picture window. From that angle, flames, wood grain, and distant trees line up in a single view.

Timber Planes And Stone Rhythm

Across the main level, walls and ceilings share the same warm wood, giving every corridor and threshold a continuous rhythm of knots and boards. Squared stone columns punctuate this timber shell, catching downlights and casting short, dense shadows over the floor. Built-in cabinetry in matching wood doubles as a low partition between lounge and passage, topped with books, photographs, and a chessboard that invite slow pauses. Steps drop from one platform to the next, so each zone feels defined without breaking the material flow.

Dining With Landscape

In the dining room, long planks form both table and walls, running lengthwise toward large windows that pull in trees and sky. A sculptural antler-style chandelier hangs above, its warm bulbs raking light across the grain and catching on small metal details. Simple white chairs line one side, while a cushioned timber bench tucks against the opposite wall, stitched with patterned pillows that echo alpine textiles. Evening meals unfold in this narrow, glowing volume, with the landscape pressed close behind clear glass.

Soft Bedrooms, Open Bathing

Sleeping rooms keep the material language but dial up softness through textiles and headboards. One suite pairs a plaid-upholstered headboard with deep charcoal pillows and a long-haired white throw, placed beneath low beams that draw the ceiling down around the bed. Another bedroom opens directly to a bathroom, where a freestanding tub and a glass shower enclosure sit on stone flooring between timber walls. Large mirrors echo the window views, doubling the presence of the valley while pale linens and fur throws keep the palette creamy and calm.

Kitchen Light And Everyday Texture

In the kitchen, wood-fronted cabinets and a hefty hood surround dark countertops, giving the work surfaces clear visual weight. Pendant lights with timber sleeves and exposed bulbs cast warm, directional pools over the sink and island, while a smaller window by the secondary sink opens to the slope outside. Everyday objects—fruit bowls, bottles, cutting boards—sit against this tactile backdrop, turning routine tasks into small, material rituals. Even in this practical room, the same dialogue between rough and smooth stays in play.

From morning light skimming across knotty boards to firelight washing the stone hearth at night, Kelly holds a steady, grounded atmosphere. Materials repeat, but small shifts in texture and proportion keep each room distinct. The chalet reads as one continuous interior story, written in timber, stone, fabric, and the changing alpine light.
