La Escondida by Touzet Studio
La Escondida is a house in Miami, Florida, United States, designed by Touzet Studio in 2018. Set in a mature oak hammock, it is arranged to preserve privacy while keeping daily life close to the trees. Rooms open to outdoor areas, and the angled views, filtered light, and cantilevered bedroom all respond directly to the site.

About La Escondida
Located in a mature oak hammock, the clients of La Escondida ask for a house that celebrates the lush vegetation and beauty of the landscape while also providing privacy for the family. The structure is oriented so the views from each room emphasize specific trees.
The living areas are aligned around the outdoor spaces, tying the family’s everyday life to the oak hammock beyond. That arrangement also filters daylight into each room. The cantilevered primary bedroom seems to float among the trees, where morning sunshine is softened by the leaves.
The kitchen and dining area overlook some of the most distinctive trees, and their branching forms create intricate shadow play. Operable glass walls run through the facade’s solid volumes, opening long views to rich greenery. The lights are rarely turned on during the day because these rooms open to the outside and take in reflected light.
These subtle moves give the home a quiet presence, one that floats among the trees without overwhelming the landscape. The family calls it La Escondida, or “the hidden one” — a private piece of Miami’s rare wilderness to call their own.
