About Coogee House
Designing for Privacy and Views
Nestled in a dense, beachside suburb, a new house elegantly emerged. Balancing privacy with breathtaking views, it was specifically crafted for a young family. As such, this residence prioritized being sturdy and practical. Furthermore, it aimed to bathe every room in natural light. Additionally, it offered layered spaces, ensuring not just flexibility but also separation. And above all, it championed privacy.
Innovative Features and Materials
In order to infuse a sense of openness, designers initially turned to internal courtyards. Subsequently, they integrated operable perforated screens. Coupled with lofty spaces and softened by muted materials, the home began to radiate expansiveness. On the other hand, despite the site’s daunting attributes—being narrow, steep, and closely observed—the house conveyed a serene lightness. Moreover, in line with a robust design brief, the structure stands out boldly. Its architectural elements, while resilient to minor flaws, are particularly striking—especially the deliberately rough-laid brickwork and stone.
