Zaytinya: A Celebration of Mediterranean Cuisine and Design
From two-star Michelin Chef José Andrés, comes Zaytinya, a luxurious restaurant located in the Ritz Carlton, New York. Designed by Rockwell Group, the 140-cover space celebrates Mediterranean culture with bright blues, warm bronzes, white oak woods and specially commissioned artwork.
Architectural finishes have been kept as a neutral base to offset these elements of texture and pattern found in the upholstered banquettes and at the bar. Rich and undulating curves, an assortment of textures, and a custom mural of a meandering Mediterranean landscape all come together to transport guests to an oasis of the coast.

Rockwell Group Unveils Interiors for Zaytinya Restaurant
New York-based architecture and design studio, Rockwell Group, has revealed the interior design for José Andrés’ two-star Michelin restaurant, Zaytinya, located at the Ritz Carlton, NYC. The design celebrates Mediterranean culture, featuring an airy space with a neutral base accented by bright blues, warm bronze metals, and white oak woods.
Adding Texture and Pattern
Upholstered banquettes and the bar create texture and pattern in the 140-cover restaurant, while exposed wood ceiling beams, acoustic linen-textured panels, and sheer blue ombré curtains lend rhythm and light privacy throughout. The adjacent wall contains large arched antique bronze mirrors and booth seating, complemented by warm leather detailing on millwork credenzas.
Artwork Features
Custom artwork includes a mural of a meandering Mediterranean landscape at the restaurant entrance, illustrations hand-painted on linen shades, and a custom backlit backbar screen of two-toned blue glass discs inspired by the Evil Eye “Mati” talisman. The bar is built with a blue lavastone top and chiselled stone bar die, and is surrounded by a Gio Ponti-inspired tiled floor depicting an abstracted olive and leaf.
Clusters of woven textile pendants in varying shapes and heights float from the high ceilings, casting a generous warm glow in the main dining room. Alluding to the fluting of columns, walls are treated with tambour details and a custom atmospheric plaster effect. The design for Zaytinya creates a modern abstraction of the coast, transporting guests to a blissful Mediterranean oasis.
