About Cherry Valley
Discovering Cherry Valley
StudioAC unveiled Cherry Valley, nestled in the heart of Prince Edward County, just two and a half hours from Toronto. This region boasts a stunning coastline and a thriving wine-making scene, distilling the essence of fields and shorelines.
The home’s site showcases a meadow plateau and a descending ridge leading to the lakeshore. This intersection serves as the site’s highlight. It offers a vantage point below the tree canopy, protected from wind by the ridge. Additionally, the view of the water emerges through the tree canopy, marking the house’s intended location.
Melding Natural Beauty with Design
They set the house into the ridge, ensuring protection and a view beneath the trees. Waterside windows showcase the shoreline. In contrast, meadow-facing windows immerse viewers in the landscape, letting them observe layers of nature, from soil to sky. Moreover, large dormers channel more light, mimicking the glow through tree canopies.
The design, although modern, draws from the area’s traditional architecture. Brick and cedar highlight the site’s contrasting elements. The solid brick wall supports the hillside backdrop. Meanwhile, a cedar roof extends towards the water, resonating with the lakeside trees. Inside, Douglas fir lines the space, with brick walls continuing the exterior’s theme.
