Morning light skims across steel-framed glazing and a mirror-calm pool. Beyond the water, a pavilion opens wide to the garden through sliding panels that pocket cleanly from view.

This is a pool house addition in Austin by Paul N. Brow Architect, built for gathering and long afternoons. The room pivots between interior comfort and breezy porch life, and the palette drives the mood. Materials do the heavy lifting.

Graphic Floor, Open Room

A patterned stone floor lays down the rhythm, its dark-and-light geometry threading from hearth to threshold. Large glass doors stack aside to erase the wall, so the dining table, lounge seating, and bar read as a single room with the pool. Ceiling fans stir the air on humid days. At night, reflections carry the pattern across the water.

Marble And Brass Bar

The bar anchors one end with a marble waterfall counter and a warm brass base, detailed with hefty pulls and twin brass gooseneck faucets. Globe pendants drop a soft halo onto the veining—polish against polish. Color-blocked stools bring playful notes, a counterpoint to the tailored millwork. From this perch, hosts serve inside or out without breaking stride.

Lounge By The Hearth

Opposite the bar, paneled walls frame a dark stone fireplace and a low, sculptural table set on the same graphic floor. A curved sofa and deep chairs hold court for conversation, aimed to the pool and the garden trees. Steel windows wrap the corner for long views, and the hearth becomes the cool-season anchor.

Color In Support Spaces

Behind the scenes, a mudroom uses saturated teal cabinetry to corral towels, totes, and a dedicated beverage fridge. The ceiling stripes nudge energy upward, while a cushioned bench catches pool gear with easy reach. A nearby powder room turns cheerful: playful wallpaper, a marble-topped brass console, and compact patterned tile underfoot. Guests read the intent instantly—fun, but finely made.

Garden And Pool Edge

Outside, pale paving traces the pool to a shaded row of loungers under a striped canopy. New planting rounds the court with clipped forms and tall trees for dappled shade. The pavilion’s white brick shell sits quietly against the historic house, connected by low steps and a bench-height ledge that doubles as a perch between swims.

Late sun throws shadows through the steel mullions and the room takes on a soft glow. Doors glide closed when the temperature rises, yet the graphic floor and brass keep the energy up. It’s a pavilion tuned to materials and light, ready for an impromptu gathering or a long, unhurried day by the water.
