House in Jastrzębia Góra by Archmondo Piotr Kowalczyk

House in Jastrzębia Góra sits on a tree-framed plot in Jastrzębia Góra, Poland, where sea air and filtered light set the tone. Designed by Archmondo Piotr Kowalczyk, the house arranges two barn-like volumes into an L-shaped plan that shapes a sheltered courtyard. It’s a family house with a measured, contemporary silhouette and a restrained palette that holds steady against the Baltic climate.

Sun shifts across spruce boards and light grey metal as a steady breeze slips through the trees. From the street, a low connector folds into the L-shaped plan and conceals the entrance behind a concrete wall.

Two elongated wings set the cadence for daily life, notched together to define a green terrace and a quiet courtyard. This is a house in Jastrzębia Góra, designed by Archmondo Piotr Kowalczyk, that privileges clear planning moves and measured sequence. The narrative unfolds through orientation, thresholds, and a room-by-room progression tuned to light and use.

L-Plan Organizes Life

The plan draws two volumes of different lengths into a right angle, a simple act that sets up both refuge and reach. One bar carries the family’s social room under an open ceiling, while the other organizes bedrooms along a protected edge with direct paths to the garden. A slender connector binds them and masks the entry, so arrival happens quietly and the courtyard reads as the central ground. It’s an ordered arrangement that keeps circulation short and sightlines long.

Courtyard And Overhangs

South and west exposures draw sun deep into the plan through full-height glazing. Sliding glass doors line both the living room and each bedroom, giving every room a clean exit to the terrace and lawn. A sculptural overhang runs the glazed edges and entry zone, thinning summer glare while sharpening the building’s linear profile. Shade where needed, openness when wanted.

Rooms In Sequence

At the plan’s hinge, a single, lofty room gathers kitchen, dining, and living beneath an open ceiling. Conversations spill across the table, past the hearth, and out to the yard in one continuous move that encourages daily togetherness. In the second wing, children’s rooms line up in a clear run and climb into compact mezzanines tucked below the roof, turning each into a small territory for play and sleep. The main bedroom borrows the open ceiling too for amplified air and light.

Barn Form, Measured

A twin-pitch roof and vertically laid spruce cladding echo the barn archetype without nostalgia. Light grey metal traces the ridges and edges, catching the Baltic horizon’s tones while the timber is left to age naturally. A concrete wall screens the courtyard from the street, setting a firm outer line so the interior sequence stays calm. Materials work with the plan, not against it.

Palette Tied To Climate

Inside, muted greys, gentle browns, and the grain of spruce keep the rooms quiet. Concrete underfoot, metal accents, and granite touches reinforce a tactile link to the coast and garden. Nothing chases effect; every opening, overhang, and junction follows function and light to tune privacy, views, and daily routine. The plan leads, the palette supports.

Evening softens the courtyards as glass cools and timber darkens by degrees. With two volumes holding the wind and giving sun a measured path, the house settles into its plot. It favors clear moves and modest means, aging alongside the landscape without noise.
