Morning slides across oiled wood floors and low stone at the threshold. A floating stair draws the eye upward as the hearth holds the ground floor in place.

The house is a contemporary family renovation in rural Čtyřkoly by Marketa Killi. Once a tired farmhouse, it now balances modern comfort with village calm through a careful interior palette. The palette holds to three moves: warm wood, cool stone, and matte plaster.

Warm Ground Plane

Walnut-toned boards run through living and dining, tightening the connection between rooms and softening light from tall doors with timber slats. A pale wool rug grounds a charcoal sectional, and a low glass table keeps sightlines open across the lounge.

Stair As Spine

A finely detailed stair rises in open treads with a clear glass balustrade, its slim stringer reading like a line drawn through the volume. It ties the double-height dining zone to the quieter rooms above and reflects daylight across plaster and wood.

Hearth And Table

The corner fireplace anchors daily routines, its dark surround set against light walls and a long media cabinet. Nearby, a generous dining table sits one step up, beneath an exposed concrete beam and a sculptural pendant that pools light on dark timber.

Entry With Order

At the front, slate-gray tile handles boots and rain, while an open wardrobe in warm wood and black steel keeps coats in easy reach. Ribbed wall panels frame a soft abstract mural, and a leather bench gives pause before the rise into the house.

Quiet Rooms Above

Upstairs, the bedroom carries the same restraint—neutral textiles, a tailored headboard, and a slim bench at the foot of the bed. Sheer curtains wash daylight across pale carpet, muting the outside while keeping a sense of breadth.

Evening returns to the hearth and the long run of wood underfoot. Materials do the calm work here, letting rural air and measured light set the tone.
