Como Apartment by Mingotti e Giordano

Como Apartment sits high above Como, Italy, where Mingotti e Giordano reshape a 1970s Brutalist apartment into a lakeside interior. Large windows, a green modular sofa, and pop-inflected pieces catch shifting reflections from the water, pulling the view deep into daily life. The result is a layered home that folds lakeside light, retro flourishes, and custom furniture into one continuous, quietly theatrical sequence.

Morning light enters in broad bands, sliding across the floorboards and the low green sofa before spilling toward the dining area. Views of the lake hang just beyond the tall windows, their pale blues and greens echoed in the walls and upholstery.

This apartment in a 1970s Brutalist building in Como, Italy, is reworked by Mingotti e Giordano as a calm yet pop-inspired home. The project focuses on bringing the lake indoors through color, reflection, and a deliberate play of surfaces. Interior moves revolve around a precise palette and a mix of vintage pieces with custom furniture, creating rooms that feel attuned to the water outside.

Lake Light As Guide

From the main living area, floor-to-ceiling openings pull in the water and the wooded hills beyond. Soft green walls and radiators painted to match turn the envelope into a muted field, so attention falls on light and view. The color story follows the lake: blues and greens soften as they move across the interior, blending into a single hue that wraps the room. Furnishings sit low and generous, keeping sightlines clear while giving the daylight broad surfaces to travel across.

Living Room Composed

At the center, a deep, modular sofa in tufted sage velvet defines the living room and sets a relaxed rhythm for daily use. A round blush rug, pale ottoman, and slim metal tables cluster toward the windows, creating an informal island for conversation or reading. Tall arc lamps and white floor lamps lean into the softness of the palette, their curves echoing the shoreline outside. Houseplants by the glazed openings extend the greenery indoors without disrupting the calm geometry of the seating.

Pop Notes In Dining

Move toward the dining end and the mood sharpens into a pop-inspired vignette. A glass-topped round table sits over a vivid rug in coral and navy, where floral motifs pick up the blue of hydrangeas on the tabletop. Vintage chrome chairs wrapped with white fur create a playful contrast of hard and soft, catching glints of light from a sputnik chandelier above. Artwork in bold black and white anchors the wall, reinforcing the graphic character of this corner without breaking its connection to the lake-oriented view.

Color Through Rooms

Elsewhere, color shifts but the pop thread continues. A magenta stair carpet slices upward beside panels of travertine and tinted glass, turning circulation into a vivid moment. The study leans into lacquer and chrome, with a two-tone desk, tubular chairs, and another saturated rug grounding the work area. In the bedroom, dusty rose bed linen and rust-toned cushions sit against pale cabinetry, while the adjacent bathroom layers soft pink millwork with veined marble and black fixtures for crisp contrast.

Terrace On The Lake

Above, a roof terrace opens directly to the panorama of Como and its basin. Slim loungers and a compact table keep the setting light, allowing foliage and skyline to take over. From here the apartment’s interior palette makes sense: greens of the hills, muted blues of the water, and the warm tones of the city’s roofs read as one continuous field. As day turns, those colors return through the glazing, tinting every room with a changing, distinctly lakeside light.
