Parrot’s Nest is a hotel located in Sichuan, China, designed by Uro Design Concepts in 2022.

The whole building is themed around parrots, with the living room setting reaching a height of 5.4 meters (18 feet). This unique feature creates a small world where parents and children can learn to communicate and exchange with one another. The design team hopes that this parrot-themed apartment can be a dream world, where families can share their love.

The challenge was to design the building in such a way that it respected the land as much as possible, taking advantage of its qualities. The architectural proposal had to fulfill certain regulations of the site, like making reference to some “typical” materials. Concrete volumes were resolved with certain elements of metal structure, making its reading very light. Additionally, a perimeter garden was designed to subtly integrate the house into the natural landscape.

No. 6 Sydney Street is a multi-family house located in the inner-city suburb of Prahran, Victoria, Australia. Designed by Wood Marsh Architecture in 2022, this project is a unique combination of craft and nature, creating a building structure carefully disguised as an organic sculpture.

Its sinuous curves and asymmetrical form appear to be carved from a singular raw material, abstracting its formal composition. With its connection to nature, and use of movement, and artistry, No. 6 Sydney Street sits in contrast to its surrounding residential context.

DarkMatter, a minimalist garden studio designed by Hyper_ Studio in Tring, Hertfordshire, UK, is a tranquil, spacious and sustainable workspace.

It stands out with its beautiful, moody façade, made of 850 scales of charred timber, and its ‘light chimneys’ that mimic dappled sunlight. Carefully dismantled and reused 95% of the initial structure, sourced materials from within a 10 mile radius, and insulated it with sheep’s wool and wood fibre, DarkMatter is a great example of circular economy principles.
