Pink House by Mezzo Atelier

In the Atlantic island of São Miguel, in the Azores, an old stable from the beginning of the 20th century was converted into Pink House – two guesthouses where history and contemporaneity coexist in balance.

About Pink House

Modern Touch to Rural Charm

Our design blends rural style with modern features, keeping its unique character. We added new openings to the colorful walls, bringing a fresh look. Also, we joined a smaller house to the main building, improving the design.

Comfortable Living Spaces

The big house has two levels. The ground floor opens to the outside and has different heights. This creates a semi-level space for socializing and access to private areas. The top floor is an open space with a high roof. It has a unique kitchen that leads to a terrace.

Honoring Azorean Style in Modern Design

We included features like outside stairs and light wood interiors. This respects Azorean design. The building’s pink and ochre colors show the local style. We used ochre differently, in bedrooms and the kitchen. This gives a new look inside and outside.

In the interior and furniture design, we aimed for a calm feel. The garden views stand out inside. We used local cedar wood a lot in building and making furniture. We also turned old pine and acacia beams found on-site into unique tables. This adds history and a special touch to each piece.
