About Apartment with a View
Modern Living Atop Berlin’s Historic District
SEHW crafted a contemporary sanctuary above Berlin’s skyline for a London-based couple. Located in the historic Gründerzeit building in Berlin’s Mitte district, the once-dilapidated apartment underwent a transformative upgrade.
Seamless Integration with a Loft Vibe
Situated on the 4th floor, the apartment incorporated the untapped attic, enhancing its spacious allure. The lower level boasts an open floor plan. Enlarged doorways offer glimpses into adjacent rooms, giving an uninterrupted spatial flow. This sense of continuity finds reinforcement in the oak parquet flooring that spans throughout.
The upper level serves as the couple’s intimate space. It houses a cozy bedroom, a connected bathroom, and a dressing room.
A Nook for Knowledge and Culture
Given the homeowner’s profession as an art historian, ample book storage became essential. A floor-to-ceiling bookshelf stretches across the entire lower level, symbolizing the home’s seamless design. Interestingly, a window within the bookshelf frames views of the neighboring Plattenbauten—concrete high-rises, evoking an Andreas Gurski photograph.
Stylish Additions and Whimsical Touches
The home integrates distinct elements like a fireplace, a movable wall for flexible spacing, and an independent kitchen island. Furnished with design classics, the space exudes harmony. Yet, playful art and decor intermittently punctuate this serenity, adding layers of charm.
