About Steirereck am Pogusch
Transforming Culinary Experiences in the Alps
Steirereck am Pogusch stands as a testament to sustainable and innovative gastronomy, elegantly nestled at a 1059 m (3474 ft) high pass in the Austrian Alps. PPAG architects embarked on a journey in 2022, transforming and extending the distinguished Viennese restaurant’s offshoot amidst its own farmland. This project encapsulates a vision for environmentally conscious and forward-thinking hospitality.
The challenge was to integrate a contemporary gastronomic village into the natural and traditional mountain landscape. The result is a harmonious blend of pre-existing structures with modern, hillside-built add-ons that catch the eye yet respect their setting. Highlights include the “Salettl” for fine dining, a vibrant fire kitchen, and a state-of-the-art distillery, among others.
A Harmonious Blend of Tradition and Modernity
Efforts were made to maintain the rustic charm of the original kitchen, lodging, stone house, wooden house, and farm while introducing new, functional spaces. The large glass house is a particularly innovative feature, doubling as an advanced greenhouse and living area, fostering a unique interaction between natural and living environments.
Steirereck am Pogusch is not only a place to dine but a destination where visitors immerse themselves in an unusual mountain world, thanks to PPAG architects’ meticulous attention to detail and custom-designed furniture. This project redefines rural luxury, proving that high-end gastronomy can coexist with sustainable practices and environmental harmony.
