Wooden house next to Konin by Studio GAB
Wooden house next to Konin stands within a young pine forest outside Konin, Poland, where Studio GAB shapes a timber house as a companion to the trees. The single-family house leans on wood for both structure and finish, drawing the surrounding trunks into every room while maintaining a highly energy-efficient envelope. Broad glazing, soft furnishings, and simple forms keep the daily routine closely tuned to the shifting forest light across seasons.

Soft light filters through tall pines before it lands on timber cladding and broad panes of glass. Inside, the same warm grain stretches across floors, ceilings, and built-ins, tying the house closely to the forest outside.
This is a single-family house in Konin, Poland, designed by Studio GAB as an energy-efficient timber home immersed in a young pine stand. Wood forms both structure and surface, so daily life unfolds against a calm, continuous palette rather than competing finishes. The interior composition centers on how light passes through the forest, slipping through large windows and sliding doors to draw the outdoors deep into the rooms.
Framing Forest Light
From the main living room, large glazed doors open directly to the clearing, so trunks and undergrowth read almost like a mural beyond the glass. Slim frames keep the view clear, while sheer curtains temper direct sun and give the room a gentle glow through the day. Higher square windows puncture the walls and pull in elevated views of branches and sky, which adds a quiet vertical rhythm to the otherwise horizontal timber boards.
Open Living Core
The heart of the house is a long, shared volume where kitchen, dining area, and sitting room share the same sloped timber ceiling. Exposed beams and rafters mark out the length of the room, while a dark, angular fireplace anchors one end and sets a crisp counterpoint to the pale wood. A light sofa, low tables, and a media wall run along one side; on the other, a generous dining table and woven chairs stand close to the terrace doors for direct access to the garden.
Kitchen In Timber Tones
The kitchen reads as a solid timber volume within the larger room, its tall cabinets clad in vertical grain that echoes the exterior facade. Stainless steel counters, integrated appliances, and black stools bring a cooler note, balancing the warmth of the wood without overwhelming it. A corner window above the sink opens to the forest, so daily tasks fall into sync with the view of trunks and shifting shadows.
Quiet Rooms For Work And Rest
Beyond the main gathering area, more intimate rooms keep the material story consistent while adjusting tone and texture. A study lines one wall with floor-to-ceiling timber shelving and a built-in desk under a wide window, turning the forest into a steady backdrop for focused work. The bathroom darkens the palette with deep stone surfaces and a sculptural black tub placed beneath a central window, so bathing aligns with the sight of dense pines rather than interior decoration.
Timber House In The Trees
Outside, volumes of varying height slip among the trunks, clad in vertical wooden boards that echo the surrounding bark. A tall chimney in a contrasting material punctuates the composition, giving a clear landmark within the forest while the warm deck boards extend the living area toward the lawn. The highly insulated shell and energy-efficient strategy keep operational demands low, so daily comfort depends more on orientation and material than on mechanical systems.
As evening falls, light from the interior washes across the timber facade and into the clearing. Through the broad panes, the continuous wood surfaces and simple furnishings give the house a steady, calm presence against the shifting forest growth.
