There is a subtle balance between the solidity of the earth and the fleeting quality of lagoon light in this recently renovated penthouse in Chioggia, completed in 2025. The apartment reads as a manifesto of quiet elegance, able to engage with the exterior without ever raising its voice. Rather than a simple redistribution of rooms, the intervention works as both aesthetic and functional surgery, using wood as its backbone and light as a material in its own right.
The Fourth Wall: Glass and Geometry
The heart of the home is the large living area, where the boundary between kitchen and sitting room is redefined by a theatrical full-height glass partition. It is not merely a divider. Its asymmetrical grid, alternating clear and acid-etched panes, turns the kitchen into a kind of domestic lantern. Inside, a monolithic island with a stone top stands in dialogue with dark wood columns, creating a material contrast that sharpens the formal clarity of the interior.
The Warmth of Oak and Architectural Shadow
Wide natural oak planks run continuously across the entire floor, forming a bright base for the custom furnishings. Especially effective is the use of dark wood paneling and storage volumes with a vertical grain. These blocks do more than serve practical needs: they carve out corridors and transitional zones, conceal flush doors, and create pockets of grazing light that bring the texture of the wood into focus.
Lighting: Drawing the Invisible
If architecture is a skillful play of volumes under light, this apartment demonstrates an assured command of lighting elements. Here, light does real work. Recessed linear channels cut through the ceiling and wash the resin-coated walls, softening hard shadows. Minimal black track lighting follows the main circulation lines, while a large suspended ring of light above the dining table and sofa acts as a clear graphic gesture, filling the void without adding visual weight.
Interior and Exterior in Dialogue
The dining area opens toward the terrace through broad sliding glass doors. Here, a ceiling with exposed whitewashed beams introduces a restrained coastal note, recalling Venetian building traditions through a contemporary lens. White chairs with soft organic lines and a solid wood table complete a composition defined by calm balance.
