About Turtle Rock House
Studio BBA designs Turtle Rock House as a ground-up residence for a family of four in southern California, shaping the home around light, air, and long views toward the surrounding landscape.
Natural light reaches every room, and skylights reduce the need for artificial light during the day. An expansive great room anchors family life and connects the shared areas to a music room, a home office with a framed park view, a studio, and the bedrooms and bathrooms.
The house turns to the site, taking in bucolic urban and rural views as well as the bordering park. Its main volume embraces the adjacent greenspace, while a lush native front garden sets a textured contrast to the smooth modern façade and helps the house engage the street without giving up privacy.
At the rear, full-height glass doors and windows open the interior to outdoor living. Wood and stucco planes carry that connection through the house, giving the rooms a steady material rhythm and a direct relationship to the back yard.
