About Cleveland Court Mews
Georgian Elegance Meets Modern Artistry
Studio Ashby has recently transformed a Georgian mews house in St. James, London, into a modern yet timeless dwelling. This commission, part of the Cleveland Court Mews development by the Crown Estate, showcases an interior inspired by the locality’s artistic legacy. Thus, Studio Ashby has created a space that feels both historically anchored and vividly contemporary.
Within this house, art takes center stage, with pieces from both rising and renowned artists adorning the walls. Notably, Tim Hall’s photographic series from Skedar Lake and Jesus Perea’s geometric bedroom prints reflect the studio’s dedication to visual storytelling. Additionally, a rug in the master bedroom, inspired by Paul Klee’s patterns, exemplifies Studio Ashby’s commitment to integrating art into everyday living spaces.
A Color Palette with a Story
Moreover, the chosen color palette echoes the works of British Abstract Figurative artists from the nearby National Gallery. Consequently, the rooms, filled with texture and muted earth tones, offer a serene escape from the bustling city. “Our goal was to create a home that resonates with authenticity and refined elegance,” Sophie Ashby, the studio’s founder, explains, “interweaving antiques and statement pieces from our cherished circle of artists and craftsmen.”
Custom Furniture as Art
Furthermore, Studio Ashby’s talent for custom design is evident in the unique furniture pieces throughout the home. A standout is a table featuring a striking black fossil marble top on a minimalist black powder-coated steel base, demonstrating how the studio’s designs contribute to the narrative of a truly personalized home.
