No Church Inside by Piertito Cardillo Studio
No Church Inside is a luxury loft with a contemporary twist located in Trani, Italy, designed in 2022 by Piertito Cardillo Studio.
Description
The idea stems from the intent to carry out a conservative renovation project to a deconsecrated Jewish church, transforming an old warehouse into a prestigious luxury loft.
The area of about 100 square meters is divided into two levels: ground floor and loft. The ground floor of about 70 sqm has a height of 8 meters at the highest point and is characterized by a keystone that refers to the typical masks found in Castel del Monte. To access the mezzanine floor of about 30 square meters, a sculptural spiral staircase in delabrè steel with grunge and refined charm in line with the finishes designed for the project was inserted.
Most of the walls were peeled and cleaned by hand, highlighting the tuff and historic stone. The contrasting materials used are consistent with the history of the place and incredibly close to the traditions of the area, with a contemporary twist. The presence of stone as a building and finishing material conditioned the project choices, placing the materiality and essentiality of materials at the center of the design concept. Having as fundamental principles the reuse and protection of the place, all design choices made were marked by the respect and enhancement of the historicity of the place.
