Wall House by Gabriela Casagrande Arquitetura

Wall House sits in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a house by Gabriela Casagrande Arquitetura. The project reads as a low, horizontal pavilion opening to river and mountain views, with living areas spilling onto broad terraces. Concrete planes, timber screens, and expansive glazing set a clear architectural rhythm, while a generous pool court anchors outdoor life.

Morning light slides beneath the wide concrete eaves and lands on pale stone. A thin roof plane floats over glass and timber, framing water and mountains beyond.

This is a house in Rio de Janeiro, designed by Gabriela Casagrande Arquitetura, organized around strong horizontal slabs and slender supports. Structural clarity drives the experience, from the shaded ground level to the quiet upper rooms that run the perimeter. The composition favors long overhangs, deep terraces, and precise joints.

Cantilever And Shade

The roof and first-floor plates project well past the glazing, creating cool verandas and protecting interiors from high sun and summer rain. One circular column lands near the lounge, taking the load cleanly while leaving views open. The result is simple: broad shade, soft light, and a comfortable edge between inside and out.

Columns And Planes

Structural lines stay legible everywhere. Concrete slabs read as continuous planes, their soffits left raw with a delicate board texture that catches shadow. Slim mullions and full-height sliders withdraw into pockets, so the ground level works like a breezy pavilion—furniture set on stone rather than a conventional living room.

Rooms At The Edge

Upstairs, bedrooms sit right at the perimeter with floor-to-ceiling glass and a fine timber datum at the headboards. Corner glazing edits the landscape into widescreen views of water and distant peaks. Underfoot, herringbone wood softens the concrete discipline and brings a warm counterpoint to the cool envelope.

Stone, Water, Light

Outside, terraces and steps are paved in pale stone that continues to the pool court, binding platforms, seating wells, and a round spa into one geometric field. The waterline sits close to the living level, so reflections climb the soffit and animate the lounge. In the baths, the language tightens: marble wraps walls, floor, and an integrated tub, lit from a precise overhead slot.

Timber Along The Garden

A long timber wall runs behind the open lounge, adding warmth and privacy to the pavilion front. Its linear grain plays against the smooth columns and crisp stair treads, and it guides movement toward the lawn. The board rhythm also buffers neighboring plots without blocking air.

By late afternoon, shadows deepen under the cantilevers and the terrace turns quiet. The house holds its line—planes, columns, and water—while the mountains take the last light.
