Felicity House steps out from the hills of Kyiv, Ukraine as a confident contemporary house by YOUSUPOVA. The project translates the sloping terrain into layered interiors where grand volumes open toward water and greenery. Inside, a restrained palette of dark wood, stone, and soft textiles underscores the building’s sculpted form while framing long views across the site.
Light pours across dark timber boards as the living room unfolds toward the lake, framed by tall panes of glass and full-height drapery. A low, generous sofa anchors the view and gathers daily life around the long linear fireplace.
This residence is conceived as a contemporary house that grows directly from the sloping terrain, translating landforms into architecture and interior character. Located in Kyiv, Ukraine and designed by YOUSUPOVA, it treats the hillside as both structure and backdrop. The core story lies inside: grand interior volumes furnished with tailored pieces, muted textures, and controlled light that reinforce the sense of permanence promised by the bold exterior form.
Living Room As Landscape Frame
The main living room stretches beneath a double-height ceiling, its dark wall panels and floorboards setting up a calm, almost theatrical stage for the landscape beyond. Pale modular seating wraps into a generous U around a circular table, its soft geometry offsetting the strict vertical lines of metal cladding and curtains. One flank is lined by a broad, low hearth where flame traces a horizontal line, balancing the tall glazed facade and grounding the room. Every element directs attention outward, so the tree line and water read as an extension of the interior.
Dining Hall Under A Luminous Canopy
Deeper inside, the dining area gathers around an elongated dark table ringed with upholstered chairs on fine metal legs. Overhead, a dense grid of delicate pendants drops from the ceiling, forming a shimmering canopy that echoes rainfall when lit at night. Full-height windows on both sides keep the long room bright, with one side opening toward a manicured garden carved into the hillside. The composition lets everyday meals sit comfortably alongside large gatherings without shifting the quiet, composed mood.
Stone Kitchen And Garden Outlook
The kitchen centers on a monumental island carved from dark stone, its veining running like a geological cross section parallel to the garden beyond. A linear pendant above repeats this axis, drawing the eye straight through to foliage and rock outside. Appliances and storage recede into tall, wood-clad cabinetry along the wall so the island reads almost as a freestanding monolith. Cooking, prep, and casual gathering cluster around this single surface, tying everyday routines to views of greenery and the terraced ground.
Spiral Stair And Quiet Salons
At the core of the house, a sculptural black spiral stair rises from the timber floor, catching light along its curved edge and leading up to more private rooms. Nearby lounges introduce deeper color, with moss-green sofas, low circular tables, and a piano set against tall glazing and a full-height book wall. Textured rugs soften the long planks underfoot, while slender lamps and contemporary art pieces punctuate the darker envelope. These salons feel suited to reading, conversation, or music, threading quieter rituals into the large domestic program.
Soft Bedrooms And Dramatic Bathing
Bedrooms reduce the palette to fabric, wood, and stone, with low beds wrapped in pale upholstery and curtains that fall from ceiling to floor. A single cluster of spherical pendants descends near the headboard, casting warm pools of light along a textured wall and stone ledge. Bathrooms return to drama: dark surfaces, perforated metal, and deep-toned stone set the stage for bold green marble vanities and linear mirrors. Brass-toned fixtures and concealed lighting bring a subtle glow, turning daily routines into deliberate, almost ceremonial, pauses.
From the first glimpse of the lake through the living room to the last reflection caught in the stone-lined bath, the house remains in steady conversation with its hillside.
