Casa Gana House in Thailand Balances Retreat Life with Gatherings

Casa Gana is a house in Pak Chong District, Thailand, designed by TOUCH Architect as a retreat with room for intimate gatherings. Completed in 2024, the project sits in Khao Yai’s quieter landscape, where a protective street facade, a courtyard entry, and broad west-facing glazing shape a measured shift from privacy to open views. Local materials and a restrained palette keep the building grounded in daily use and easy upkeep.

About Casa Gana

Located in the calm surroundings of Khao Yai, a well-known suburban destination about a three-hour drive from Bangkok, the site covers six hundred square wah. Surrounded by nature and open views of the hills, it is planned as both a vacation villa and a wedding venue for intimate gatherings, offering privacy within a composed setting. Because the construction site sits lower than the land around it, underground stone is removed to avoid pile driving, then reused as a retaining wall for the raised building platform.

The villa is placed at the end of the site to make the most of the views and privacy. Toward the road, a solid facade blocks less desirable outlooks. From there, visitors move through a narrow opening into a quiet entrance courtyard, creating a gradual transition into the interior.

Arranged across two floors, the house supports both retreat living and events such as weddings. On the first floor, the open-plan living area looks west through floor-to-ceiling glass, connecting directly to a long outdoor terrace. That terrace extends the main living area and allows for different types of gatherings, while also linking to the swimming pool and barbecue area. A side stair leads from here to an elevated outdoor shower.

Private rooms and outdoor amenities on the upper floor are set to the north, where they face the garden. In the main bedroom, an indoor bathtub is positioned to take in that quieter view. A separate party room with two additional bedrooms accommodates families and group travelers. Both bedrooms connect to the rooftop terrace, which works as a private outdoor retreat and also as a platform for wedding ceremonies, maintaining a visual link to the garden below. An outdoor stair provides a shortcut to this roof terrace, separate from the indoor stair, and also creates an approach for wedding guests as light moves across the concrete surface.

Because the building serves several purposes in this setting and needs to remain easy to maintain, the material palette relies on local sources. The exterior is finished with plaster pressed with coarse sand, giving the walls a textured surface and a neutral tone. This restrained finish suits different wedding themes and also allows the exterior to function as a projection screen for outdoor movies. Natural wood is introduced to reinforce a more relaxed atmosphere, while black interior elements bring contrast and depth. Tempered glass along the west side opens the house to broad views and strengthens the connection between the interior and the outdoors.
