Andaz Maui by Rockwell Group

To highlight the lush surroundings of Mokapu Beach, Rockwell Group designed open and airy public spaces and guest rooms that enhance the resort’s connection to the outdoor environment. A modern interpretation of traditional Hawaiian design is achieved through the unexpected use of furnishings and patterns; natural materials including Italian limestone, oak, teak, and walnut; and an art program featuring works by contemporary Hawaiian artists.
Lobby
Guests enter the 8,000 SF lobby through a covered wooden bridge glowing with lantern lighting, positioned over an infinity still pond. The lobby opens up to stunning views of the infinity swimming pool and ocean. A central sandpit offers casual seating both in and around the sandpit. A lowered, pitched roof with wooden slats creates a more residential and intimate environment. A skylight and kinetic mobile sculpture that moves with the breeze are located directly above the sandpit. An elegant wooden spiral staircase, recalling the curves of a Hawaiian canoe, leads guests down to the resort’s main restaurant.
Main Restaurant
Rockwell Group has designed a two-meal restaurant that connects guests to the outdoors. The back section of the restaurant features tables and seating on a one-foot-tall raised platform to maximize beach and ocean views. The ceiling is covered in wood slats draped with fabric. A dramatic sculpture made from wood is displayed in the main dining area. A 16-seat private dining room is separated from the main dining area by sliding doors. A second restaurant at the resort, Morimoto Maui, features Japanese cuisine, a sushi bar, and a liquor bar.
Studios and Ballroom
Five studios provide flexible conference room space and include communal tables, modular meeting desks that can be reconfigured based on guests’ needs, and mini-bars. In addition, each studio has a kitchen and breakout rooms where guests can grab a bite to eat during meetings. The ballroom can be accessed via its own separate lobby featuring lounge seating and with an outside view of a lush garden. It also connects to a courtyard with a skylight and planter featuring an orbital wood Hawaiian sculpture. Tables and chairs in the ballroom are all custom-made from Australia. The space is illuminated with 30” diameter, hand-blown clear glass pendants suspended by banded rope tops. The 16 oversized pendants provide a warm glow to the ballroom.
Guest Rooms and Suites
Three wings at the resort – Makai, Kihei, and Makena – house the guest rooms and suites. Teak vanities, custom backlit mirrors, and stone floors and walls in the bathrooms make for a sleek, stylish enclave. Communal wooden dining tables in the suites offer flexible seating in the form of a long bench and chairs. Artwork by local Hawaiian artists creates authentic decorative touches.
Villas
Residential villas include a full kitchen with wine refrigerator, a catering kitchen with pantry, and a tub overlooking the ocean and connecting to an outside balcony. Several villas also have media rooms. All of the villas feature custom furniture.
Spa
Inspired by a Hawaiian apothecary, the spa is a luxurious destination for guests to relax and rejuvenate. Cabinets lining the walls house herbs and other products that are mixed by staff in the central Tea Bar. Spa services will be offered in10 treatment rooms. Separate men’s and women’s sauna and steam rooms will also each have a plunge pool.
Pools
Three infinity pools, including a quiet adult pool and salt water lagoon pool, extend to the horizon. With the backdrop and ambiance of Maui, guests will feel connected to the natural beauty of the island as they enjoy a swim or socialize at one of the nearby bars. Two outdoor bars, the Tiki Bar and the Waterfall Bar, serve drinks and light snacks. The Tiki Bar features a backdrop art piece made from vintage surfboards and chaises for lounge seating. Fire pits serve as dramatic feature elements in the Waterfall Bar and pool areas.
“Camp Hyatt” Kids’ Club
A convenient daycare option for families and a fun-filled experience for children, the Kids’ Club is staffed full-time and features a nursery, arts and crafts area, jungle gym, slide, water table, and learning center.
