Pine Hill Residence by Dillon Kyle Architecture
Modern addition to a single family house situated in Pine Hill, Texas, designed in 2012 by Dillon Kyle Architecture.
Description by Dillon Kyle Architecture
Site constraints meant that this addition to a 1973 house designed by noted Texas architect Frank Welch could not be contiguous with the existing structure, while neighborhood restrictions dictated that it conform to the style of the existing house. Containing family room and bar with space for entertaining, the new building shares a number of both new and renovated outdoor spaces, while both are completely screened from the street by landscaping and trees.
The room’s entire east wall is sliding glass doors that open onto a lawn. Its stucco exterior and chimney match the material and massing of the existing house. The height of the chimney forms an anchor for the design, allowing the main volume of the room to wrap around it. Travertine floors, aluminum doors, and other details were also carefully selected to match the established vocabulary. The custom bronze bar element was a collaboration with the client, who is also an interior designer.
