Eco-Elegance in Betzenstein: A Modern Twist on Traditional Design
Nestled on a hillside at the edge of Betzenstein, a quaint historical town in the heart of Franconian Switzerland Nature Park, stands the Refugium Betzenstein. This modern passive house brilliantly merges traditional regional forms and materials with a sleek, contemporary design. Its double-pitched roof and longhouse structure pay homage to local architecture, while the uniform slate cladding on both façade and roof imparts a monolithic elegance.
Blending Dark and Light: A Tale of Two Levels
Contrasting sharply with the dark upper level, the house’s ground floor dazzles in white plaster. It houses two spacious barrier-free vacation apartments, each sprawling over 45 square meters (about 484 square feet). These apartments embrace outdoor living, with floor-to-ceiling windows opening onto a terrace. Inside, each unit offers a large open space, featuring a cozy sleeping area, a living area with a sofa, dining table, and kitchenette.
Sustainable Living with a Touch of Whimsy
The Refugium Betzenstein’s commitment to ecological living is evident in every aspect, from its renewable and environmentally friendly building materials to its solar energy utilization and nature-inspired exterior design. The interior design playfully nods to nature, too. It features steps and room dividers resembling grass, decorative birch logs, and cowhide rugs, creating a healthy, sustainable, and whimsically natural living environment.
