About Dissolve House
Revitalizing Heritage: A South Hampstead Transformation
In the South Hampstead Conservation Area, a film producer and advertising creative’s home springs from the concept of the ‘dissolve’ seen in cinema. This technique, where one scene flows into the next, reflects the connection between eras and the passage of time.
Blending Old with New: A Modern Extension
The ground floor apartment’s expansion respects the Victorian roots of the structure, introducing a spacious extension. Divided by a fresh courtyard, this new wing honors the past while embracing the present. The addition’s walls, highly glazed, nod to Modernist icons like the Farnsworth House, merging old and new in a dance of transparency.
A Return to Grandeur: Restoring Architectural Integrity
Inside the main house, previous remodels had neglected the original architecture, leading to poorly laid out bedrooms. Dominic McKenzie Architects’ vision reinstates the home’s original grandeur. The use of polished plaster and custom joinery throughout speaks to the project’s high quality and craftsmanship.
