Melbourne’s Architectural Gem
Tucked between Flinders Street and Collins Street, today’s structure shines as one of Melbourne’s cherished landmarks. Proudly protected by the Heritage Council of Victoria, it stands as a testament to the Victorian Goldrush era, a period where meticulous craftsmanship was the norm and architectural splendor was at its peak.
Embracing a Vintage Transformation
About a decade ago, our client bought an apartment in this iconic setting. Their vision? Interiors that resonate with the building’s late 1800’s charm. So, at IDI, we embarked on this mission, preserving the foundational structure yet making strategic spatial adjustments. We introduced a kitchen and bench area. This not only streamlined daily meal prep but also amplified both indoor and outdoor entertaining.
Furthermore, considering the young grandkids, we carved out a mezzanine. This thoughtful addition provides a playful retreat for the youngsters, allowing them a space away from the grown-ups.
Marrying Tradition with Modernity
When it came to wall and window treatments, we opted for bespoke designs, adding a touch of uniqueness. The European oak floorboards, imported from Italy, serve as a bridge between warmth and style. All in all, this meticulous blend of old and new ensures a living space that, we believe, will enchant our clients for generations to come.
