ADK Camp by Birdseye Design
ADK Camp, located in New York State’s Adirondack Park, is a private residence on Brant Lake, owned by the same family for four generations. The 5-acre site is defined by two existing boathouses, a tree-lined carriage road, and a vintage waterfront cabin.
About ADK Camp
Reimagining Historic Elegance
Initially, replacing a deteriorated structure, this residence channels the essence of Great Camp buildings. Through its minimalist design, it strategically anchors the site’s historic buildings, subsequently forging a dynamic central hub for inhabitants. Moreover, the architecture gracefully integrates into the landscape, ensuring the boathouses remain visually prominent.
As you enter, the eastern-focused entrance leads into a central living space, bookended by private family wings. Surrounding this, an encompassing exterior deck transitions into a stone terrace, thus promoting diverse outdoor seating options. With a nod to the client’s inclusive vision, the residence and grounds offer full accessibility. Importantly, thresholds, decks, and terraces sit flush with grade, and wheelchair-friendly paths weave towards the boathouses, seamlessly harmonizing structure with scenery.
Contemporary Meets Tradition
At its heart, the ADK Camp concept pays homage to the functional, structural, and contextual nuances of the Great Camp design. Distinctly, its Swiss-chalet roof evokes a familiar architectural dialect. Contrastingly, unlike the rough-hewn details of its historic counterpart, this project showcases refined juxtapositions, evidently both inside and out.
