About Casa Patioporche

Merging Mediterranean and Local Tradition

This house aims to combine the Mediterranean courtyard house typology with the local tradition of rural housing in Elche. The unique feature of this tradition is the use of a south-facing porch. By merging these two elements, the house takes on a new form that revolves around a central space called the “patio-porch.” This space serves as the heart of the house, around which the rest of the interior spaces are designed. The design creates a perfect balance between the indoors and outdoors, with the patio-porch providing a protected and covered exterior space while still remaining open to the sky, making it a beautiful “yin yang of sun and shade.”

Enveloping the Exterior

Apart from the interior spaces, the house also envelops the exterior. It projects to the south, where the pool and garden are located. This design allows the occupants to enjoy the beautiful outdoors while still remaining connected to the indoors. The south-facing design also allows for maximum sun exposure, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere inside the house.
