About Byrd Park House

Modern Home Design in a Historic Setting

ARCHITECTUREFIRM was tasked with designing a house in William Byrd Terrace, a historic area filled with architecturally significant homes at the heart of Byrd Park in Richmond. This home is designed to harmonize with the proportions and character of the neighboring historic homes, while discreetly embracing a minimalist aesthetic.

Exterior Design: Bridging the Old and the New

The exterior of the house directly responds to the massing, height, and Italianate roof profile of the surrounding homes. It also introduces a series of graceful arches that delineate the major openings of the street-facing facade and garden loggia. This combination of design elements creates a seamless transition between the old and the new.

Interior Design: Emphasizing Calmness and Connection

Within the home, a clean material palette, smooth plaster crown details, and ample natural light work together to foster a sense of tranquility and a connection to the natural beauty of the nearby park.
