Chez D. Apartment in Bucharest Balances Minimalism and Chic

Chez D. is a three-bedroom apartment located in Bucharest, Romania, designed by Jooca Studio in 2021. The designers, Bianca Buruiană and Alexandra Stamate, reconfigured the layout during construction, introducing features like a glass partition in place of a brick wall to invite more light. The interior embraces the New Chic style, blending art and minimalism, with custom-made furniture and creative lighting adding to its characterful design.

Located in Bucharest, the three-bedroom apartment (90 square meters) was bought in 2021, while still under construction. Thanks to this, architects Bianca Buruiană and Alexandra Stamate (from the Jooca Studio team) were able to make changes to the electrical and layout plans. They removed the brick wall between the kitchen and living room and opted for a glass partition with sliding doors. This change brought in more light and allowed for a dining table in the living room and a smaller one in the kitchen.

For the interior design, the art-loving owner desired a playful, airy atmosphere, personalized with artistic decorative elements. “The inspiration came from the New Chic style, whose striking features blended perfectly with the minimalist aesthetic we typically embrace,” Alexandra adds.

Among the most spectacular elements are three custom-made pieces that perfectly illustrate this design style: the dining table, the kitchen table, and the hallway console. These are successfully complemented by the living room chandelier, Invisible White by Dia Buga, and the office chandelier, Georges by Georges Store.

In the living room, the two-tone sofa and asymmetrically designed coffee table create a cozy and intimate seating area. Opposite, a white TV dresser decorated with colorful accessories completes the setting.

The dining room and kitchen are close together, linked by a common feature: colorful leg tables, custom-made specifically for this project. Similarly, the console in the hallway perfectly complements this chic interior.

The master bedroom and study continue the design theme and color palette of the living area. Beige tones dominate the bedroom, creating a welcoming atmosphere, while white is predominant in the study. A white modular bookcase occupies one wall, providing a perfect place to display books and decorative objects. A beige sofa bed completes the setting and adds functionality to the room, with a floral-patternedchandelier as the finishing touch.

The bathrooms are two stylish spaces. The guest bathroom, with its shower cubicle, stands out with a freestanding sink, while in the master bathroom, the two-tone geometric tiles are eye-catching and give a playful air to the room.
