Joshi House is a single-family home in Bengaluru, India, designed by Anahata in 2023. The design balances art and architecture, creating personalized spaces while maintaining common areas for togetherness. The house features geometric volumes, with a cantilevering circular balcony as a standout element.
The interior mirrors this circular volume, enhancing flow and cohesion. Clean lines, natural light, and brass elements characterize the decor, blurring boundaries between personal reflection and shared experiences.
Symbiosis art and architecture
Joshi House by Anahata encompasses an artistic articulation of volumes, where art and architecture intertwine in a dynamic symbiosis. Located within a gated community on a 222-square-meter plot in Bengaluru, India, this family home transcends simple functionality. It combines customized spaces and common areas to encourage gathering and cater to a family of five.
The design revolves around creating spaces that reflect the preferences of each family member, ensuring they have a personal retreat. Meanwhile, shared spaces seamlessly connect these individual areas, offering both personal reflections and lively stages for shared experiences.

Exterior and interior design
The exterior of Joshi House focuses on balance and proportion, with each element contributing to the overall coherence of the design. Geometric volumes add rhythm and visual harmony, transforming the house into a symphony of form and function. Clean masses favor modern design principles, creating timeless elegance.
In particular, the arrangement of volumes creates an illusion in which the cantilevered circular balcony appears to be suspended in mid-air. This outdoor living space serves as a striking focal point, enhancing the play of light and scale.
Inside, the circular volume is mirrored in the living room, transforming into a flooring with a prominent yellow circle. This design element ingeniously connects the living room, dining room and kitchen areas, creating a cohesive flow. The yellow circle extends outward like a terrace, infusing the space with a warm glow.
Eccentuating natural light
A suspended wall in the living room and full-height windows maximize natural light, acting as a vibrant canvas for materials such as wood, stone, and brass. Extending the windows to roof level amplifies the visual impact, transforming each room into a shifting canvas of sky and light.
Skylights above the dining area and staircase, along with other well-placed windows, allow sunlight to paint the interior in dynamic patterns. The bathroom, illuminated by a skylight, becomes a serene retreat with soft, diffused light.

Brass elements strategically placed throughout the interior capture and reflect changes in light, creating a synergy that evolves throughout the day. This intentional choreography elevates the architectural experience, celebrating the interplay between light and material.
Holistic approach to design
Joshi House exemplifies the realization that the ultimate canvas is the human experience. The symbiosis of art and architecture is not abstract but a lived reality in which spaces shape emotions, provoke thoughts, and inspire creativity. By dissolving the boundaries between these disciplines, the project elevates the built environment, transforming everyday life into artistic expression.
