Perched atop a hill in Valencia’s prestigious housing estates, the House of the Quarry rises from challenging terrain. Its design seeks to ascend the slope, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape. This residence features a series of layered boxes, blending seamlessly with the earth itself.
A Unique Integration with Nature
This home carves a niche in the mountain, creating a distinct world for its dwellers. The lower section merges with the terrain, while the upper section presents dual vistas: sea views through the pool on one side and the Mediterranean forest on the other.
Within its upper floors, the house unfurls into a space dedicated to daytime activities. Here, the terrace and pool extend the indoor spaces, connecting them to the outdoors. The pool, a prism-like structure, juts out over the bedrooms and gym, floating at various heights.
Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Living
The architectural approach ensures the House of the Quarry embodies lightness and openness. With glass walls framing sea views, the design minimizes structural interruptions, enhancing its bond with the horizon. The choice of raw materials accentuates the home’s fundamental structure.
Central to the home is a staircase made of glowing yellow onyx, bridging the house’s levels with its luminous steps. These steps, large onyx slabs, light up, thanks to an innovative design. They not only illuminate but also serve as a metaphorical connection to the earth’s core.
