AYG House: Four Levels of Comfort and Luxury
Located in Mexico City, Mexico, the AYG House is a residence designed by Miguel de la Torre mta+v in 2022.
The challenge was to design the building in such a way that it respected the land as much as possible, taking advantage of its qualities. The architectural proposal had to fulfill certain regulations of the site, like making reference to some “typical” materials. Concrete volumes were resolved with certain elements of metal structure, making its reading very light. Additionally, a perimeter garden was designed to subtly integrate the house into the natural landscape.
About AYG House
We discovered a property surrounded by vegetation and a variety of large trees on our first visit, which was quite impressive. We realized that this house should be designed taking into account its natural environment, challenging ourselves to respect the land as much as possible while making use of its qualities. This gave us the opportunity to develop a design originally only for two people, without the need for more than one bedroom or a space for social coexistence. However, a couple of additional spaces were added to the program in order to receive guests outside the house, if necessary, integrating them into the house activities in public areas, gardens, terraces, and porches.
Architectural Party
The architectural party was divided into four levels:
1. Access
2. Two guest bedrooms and the social area with an open kitchen connected to the living room, dining room, and terrace; as much open space as possible was used to create a connection between the house and nature.
3. The main bedroom
4. The creative area, containing a music studio and library
Additionally, a perimeter garden was designed to subtly integrate the house into the natural landscape.
Design Regulations
The architectural proposal had to adhere to certain regulations of the site, like making reference to some “typical” materials. Nonetheless, the house design managed to maintain a common language with the rest of the complex. Concrete volumes were resolved with certain elements of metal structure, creating a light reading. The treatment of the fifth façade is a combination of textures and functions which simultaneously show the constructive and functional system and the texturalization and color. This ranges from the traditional tile to stone, which mitigates the sun, and solar cells that supply energy to illuminate the exterior of the house and its machine room.
Casa AYG: Simplicity and Natural Resources
Casa AYG is an exercise to simplify function, make use of the site’s natural resources, and minimize the impact on the site as much as possible.
