A Historic Townhome Reimagined with Modern Sophistication
Located in the heart of Edinburgh, UK, the New Town Apartment underwent a stunning transformation under the skilled design vision of Luke McClelland. Completed in 2023, this project seamlessly blends historic charm with contemporary elegance.
Preserving the Past, Embracing the Future
Adhering to the property’s Grade A Listed status, the design team meticulously preserved the existing historic features while strategically introducing modern interventions. By stripping back the interior, they celebrated the building’s original character, highlighting the natural beauty of the pine floorboards, stone flags, and the striking Georgian “pencheck” staircase.
Bespoke Craftsmanship and Thoughtful Functionality
The apartment’s centerpiece is the custom-designed oak kitchen, crafted by the local joinery studio Archispek. Featuring a multifunctional island that doubles as a dining table, the kitchen seamlessly integrates storage and appliances to maintain its clean, sculptural aesthetic. Elsewhere, a new opening connects the kitchen to the utility room, enhancing the overall flow and functionality of the primary living spaces.
