About Khun Atiruj Residence

Ari House is a private residence in a dense urban neighborhood in Bangkok, shaped around openness, calm, and fluid movement. Drawing on indoor-outdoor living, the house creates a quiet and livable retreat that gives its residents both comfort and privacy in the middle of the city.

The sequence begins with a semi-outdoor arrival court, gently enclosed by natural textures and filtered light. Entry is through a large timber door set within warm plaster walls and vertical timber cladding, giving the approach a grounded, understated character. Overhead, finely crafted timber lattice screens protect the upper levels while still allowing daylight and breeze to pass through the facade.

At the center of the home, a generous double-volume living and dining area opens directly to a lush backyard through floor-to-ceiling glazed doors. This main room acts as the social heart of the house, strengthening the relationship between inside and outside. A restrained interior palette of smooth plastered walls, warm timber ceilings, and understated furnishings gives the rooms a soft, tactile atmosphere.

The plan is clear and easy to read, moving in a natural linear sequence from the front arrival court to the private garden at the rear. Full-height openings are placed strategically to support cross ventilation and maintain strong visual connections to surrounding greenery. Operable timber screens and soft drapery let residents adjust light and privacy as needed.

One of the house’s key architectural moves is its 9-meter (29.5-foot) structural grid, achieved through a post-tension concrete system. This approach makes wide, column-free spans and high ceilings possible, allowing open and adaptable interior layouts without compromising structural clarity.

Material continuity ties the house together. Timber appears throughout, wrapping walls, ceilings, and integrated service zones to bring warmth and tactile depth. That consistent use of material softens the thresholds between interior and exterior, architecture and landscape, and structure and everyday domestic life.
