Revitalizing History: Studio Lomo’s Lamione Project
Studio Lomo’s project in the Sassi di Matera transforms an original lamione into contemporary tourist accommodation. This project skillfully merges modern design with the building’s historical essence, focusing on reimagining its internal layout.
A Multilevel Design with Panoramic Views
Spanning three floors, the lamione features double bedrooms at the rear, offering stunning views of the Matera Murgia canyon. In contrast, the front part of the lamione boasts a double-height space. This area centers around a striking staircase, wrapped in a golden sheet and encircling a two-burner fireplace. Here, the dining area with a kitchenette and living room come together, creating a vertical architectural experience.
Blending the Old with the New
The project respects the historical significance of the original structure, including its wall surfaces and tuff ashlar vaults. This approach not only preserves the ancient tuff architecture of the Sassi of Matera but also enriches it with contemporary design elements. The fusion of past and present in this project highlights the timeless beauty of Matera’s architectural heritage.
