About House in Trees
An Urban Oasis in the Heart of Los Angeles
Despite its dense urban surroundings, the site offers a serene retreat, replete with mature trees. This natural haven, nestled in bustling Los Angeles, presents a unique paradox.
Marrying Architecture with Nature
The aim? Preserve the natural features, even if it meant accommodating a tree within the house’s design. The house’s steep hillside location enabled an ingenious cantilevering design, minimizing foundational work. This design choice not only maximizes the native yard space but also encourages planting.
Prioritizing Privacy Amidst Urban Buzz
Strategically positioning the house near the lot’s center ensures privacy. It also creates a buffer from external elements like neighboring houses and public streets.
Flexible Living Spaces: Dual Units Under One Roof
The house boasts dual units. The main segment, designed for a family of four, encompasses two bedrooms. In contrast, the secondary unit—separated by an outdoor breezeway—functions as an office and entertainment hub. Complete with a bedroom, living area, bathroom, and kitchen, this space can seamlessly transform to accommodate guests.
