About The Nest

Unearthing the Past for a Future Home

Situated in Phu Ly city’s burgeoning urban region in Ha Nam province, our featured dwelling lies atop a historical gravesite. Prior to construction, the builders excavated the old soil layer to dispel any uncertainties. This careful exploration lent a unique perspective to the house’s conception, leveraging the excavated site as a key element of the house design. The result? A distinct spatial feature and a novel potential to harness geothermal energy.

Introducing Tile Nest: An Intersection of Heritage and Modernity

Bearing the moniker ‘Tile Nest,’ the house creatively combines the intricate design of a nest with an ancient pit house’s clandestine nature. This innovative juxtaposition manifests as a distinctive corrugated appearance. The outer shell, seemingly porous or perforated, belies a spacious interior, giving this house a unique, multi-faceted character.

Elevating Traditional Material for a Contemporary Look

The outer shell’s highlight is its composition of seemingly levitating tiles, reminiscent of a traditional stacked roof or sunshade. A transitional green balcony graces the middle layer, offering captivating views at varying heights. Not only aesthetically pleasing, this design also moderates the internal microclimate, optimizing the living spaces inside.

Bringing Vietnam’s Tile Heritage into the Modern Age

While tiles have long been a staple material in Vietnamese architecture, their use in the Tile Nest redefines traditional expectations. Visitors can fully experience the tiles through sight, touch, and even their sensory properties. This tactility encourages unique experiences in the space, underscored by the play of sunlight reflection, wind, and the fragrance of plants. Tile Nest thus presents a seamless blend of nature and architecture, infused with a strong sense of memory and heritage.
