About Schlotfeldt Residence

Sitting proudly above the picturesque Okanagan valley, a corten-clad house stands out against the desolate mountain landscape, its sleek, modern design a striking contrast to the rugged surroundings.

Built to Withstand the Elements

Designed to resist and react to the harsh environment, the structure takes into account the risks of fire, extreme heat, wind, and snow that come with high altitude living. Large overhangs provide shelter from the elements, while the base of the structure offers no glazed openings to protect against low-lying fires.

A Central Skylight and Light Tunnel

A set of steel perforated stairs leads up to the entry across a perforated landing, inviting natural light into the home through a central skylight and light tunnel. This design feature not only illuminates the interior but also adds a touch of elegance to the overall aesthetic.

An Uninterrupted 270-Degree View

The truncated, arrow-shaped plan is raised up and set into the existing rocky landscape, providing an unobstructed 270-degree view from the main living spaces of the Okanagan valley and flanking mountain ranges. This breathtaking panorama is a true showstopper, making the corten-clad house a true oasis in the midst of the desolate landscape.

A True Masterpiece of Modern Design

With its unique blend of industrial and modern design elements, the corten-clad house in the Okanagan Valley is a true masterpiece of contemporary architecture. Its sleek lines, durable materials, and strategic design features make it a standout structure in the rugged landscape, and a testament to the ingenuity of modern design.
