About Hudson Valley Residence II

Modern Meets Rustic in the Catskills

In the Catskill Mountains, a unique glass-and-wood-paneled home takes inspiration from the surrounding agricultural valley. This residence defies simple categorization, blending modern style with the rustic charm of local barns. Its design features clean lines and right angles, embodying contemporary elegance.

A Symphony of Subtle Details

The house unveils its beauty gradually, much like a poem or a piece of music. It boasts subtle shifts in texture, color, and rhythm. The cedar exterior and walnut floors, washed in silvery tones, change shades with the light and time of day. Floor-to-ceiling windows on either side of the central part allow the outside landscape to shape the home’s airy interior. A 4-foot (1.22 meters) module, marked by vertical elements in the windows, doors, and walls, adds a melodic touch to the design. In contrast, the kitchen cabinetry’s horizontal grain runs parallel to the north-south ridge line, creating a visual counterpoint.

Harmonious Indoor-Outdoor Connection

The house further enhances its design with an east-west paved patio of slender, mottled-gray Italian bricks. Extending from the interior to the back patio, this feature creates a seamless indoor-outdoor transition. This detail, along with the home’s overall design, captures the essence of modern living harmonized with natural surroundings.
