About Hebert Paradise

Sustainable Urban Oasis: Hebert Paradise Reimagines Eco-Conscious Living in London

In the vibrant heart of Kensal Rise, North West London, a mid-terrace house has undergone a remarkable transformation. Designed by the innovative RISE Design Studio, this project, titled “Hebert Paradise,” sets a new standard for eco-friendly retrofits in metropolitan areas.

Energy-Efficient Retrofitting Strategies

Incorporating advanced EnerPHit principles, the renovation employs cutting-edge energy-efficient strategies. An Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) provides water and space heating, while Solar Photovoltaic (PV) panels generate renewable electricity. The home boasts enhanced airtightness, super-insulation, and a Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) system, resulting in a staggering 75% reduction in energy consumption – from 38,500 kWh per annum to just 9,500 kWh per annum (from 13,300 kWh per year to 3,300 kWh per year).

Seamless Integration of Indoors and Outdoors

Thoughtful design seamlessly connects the open-plan living spaces to the lush garden, creating a harmonious indoor-outdoor flow. The addition of a separate garden studio doubles as a versatile home office, transforming the work-from-home experience and providing a marked transition between work and home life.

Innovative Materials and Aesthetics

The project showcases a carefully curated selection of sustainable materials, including locally sourced clay plaster, Valchromat (made from recycled wood fibers), microcement, and polished concrete floors. These elements not only contribute to the home’s eco-friendly performance but also imbue it with a contemporary and visually appealing aesthetic.

Homeowner’s Perspective: Enhancing Quality of Life

The homeowners, Anne-Claire and Olly, have embraced the project’s transformative impact on their daily lives. They revel in the seamless indoor-outdoor connection, the spacious and bright kitchen-living area, and the luxurious master ensuite with its skyward-facing rooflight. The addition of the garden studio has also revolutionized their work-from-home experience, reducing their commute time by 90 minutes per day.

A Blueprint for Sustainable Urban Living

As cities worldwide grapple with housing shortages and climate change, the Hebert Paradise project offers a compelling blueprint for sustainable urban living. This innovative renovation demonstrates that by prioritizing eco-conscious design and cutting-edge technology integration, it is possible to create homes that are not only environmentally responsible but also enhance the quality of life for their occupants.

RISE Design Studio is currently in discussions to apply the lessons learned from this project to future renovations across London and beyond, potentially scaling up the impact of these sustainable practices and contributing to a greener, more livable urban landscape.
