About The Shining Home
Family-Centered Duplex Penthouse Renovation In Ho Chi Minh City
The Shining Home is a duplex penthouse renovation project located in the My Khanh residential complex, Phu My Hung, Ho Chi Minh City. Designed by ShapeUs Studio in 2023, the 310m² apartment spans the 12th and 13th floors and serves as the home of a young family with their twin children and beloved dog. The project aims to create a balanced space where family life and personal needs coexist seamlessly, a home where working, living and playing harmonize within a shared rhythm.
Design Centers Around Family’s Daily Routines
The design revolves around the family’s daily routines, where each area has a clear function yet remains interconnected to the broader family dynamic. The central intervention was opening a void between the two floors, acting as a light well, to improve natural ventilation and bring in daylight deep into the interior. This visual continuity across levels helps make the space feel more expansive and open.
Kitchen Functions As The Heart Of The Living Space
The kitchen is designed as the heart of the ground floor, an open layout that allows parents to cook while keeping an eye on the children playing nearby. Adjacent to it, a striking yellow staircase sits at the center of the apartment, a playful focal point that introduces a sense of movement and flow. Beyond being a means of creating a loop movement, the stair also becomes a playful element — a small “playground” for the kids, infusing the home with joy and vibrant energy.
Private Area Designed For The Family’s Comfort Atop The Living Room
The upper floor houses the family’s private spaces. The twins’ room is bright and cheerful, tailored to their age with lively colors that inspire creativity and happiness. A round window in the corner visually links the children’s room to the rest of the home which brings openness, and a sense of connection. The children’s room is also thoughtfully connected to the master bedroom via a family shared bathroom suite, a design that ensures both safety and everyday convenience for the family.
Glass Canopy Creates An Airy Rooftop Retreat
A generous, airy rooftop on the upper level is transformed with the addition of a glass canopy, extending the usable space. The workspace and bathtub are carefully positioned to embrace panoramic views of the city from above, offering a calming retreat whether for work or relaxation. Large glass doors further blur the boundary between indoors and out, filling the apartment with light and air, and creating a sense of spaciousness throughout.
Neutral Palettes And Soft Wood Tones Make The Space Comfortable
The Shining Home follows a modern design language, with a neutral palette and soft wood tones that bring warmth and comfort to the living space. Gentle pastel accents are delicately placed, evoking a sense of lightness and joy for children.
The Shining is more than a home. It is a living space mirrors the rhythm of a growing family, where each day is fostered by light, joy and connection.
