Reviving a Historical Gem: Violette and Christophe’s Dream
When I met Violette and Christophe, they had just fallen in love with an old building, listed as a historical monument in France. My mission was to transform it into a comfortable, functional pied-à-terre while preserving its original character. The main challenge? Dealing with limited floor space and low ceilings.
Their dream was to create a sense of spaciousness and light in their new home.
The Project: Maximizing Space and Light
The project focused on optimizing every inch of space by redesigning passageways for fluid movement. We aimed to create storage solutions that were both functional and decorative. For instance, we designed a black cabinet module to discreetly house waste containers. Similarly, sliding doors now reveal a cozy guest room and a library. We replaced the old torchis with warm, red bricks typical of northern France, while preserving the cathedral framing, exposed beams, and oak plank floors. These elements now blend with ultra-modern furniture, creating a unique aesthetic. Additionally, we crafted an intimate master suite, enclosed by a large glass partition.
Connecting Spaces: A Metallic Ribbon
A key idea was to connect all levels of the home with a metallic ribbon. This feature starts from the street and leads to the terrace, highlighted by a custom-made, artful ironwork staircase.
Their feedback? “We found the cozy, unique nest we dreamed of, a perfect retreat between our travels.”
