About Gont

Located in the picturesque village of Tatariv, Ukraine, Gont is a captivating cottage project designed by Between the Walls studio. Completed in 2023, this property seamlessly integrates with the mountain slope, offering breathtaking views of the Carpathians from its spacious terrace.

Embracing Local Craftsmanship

Gont derives its name from the traditional Carpathian wooden cladding technique known as “gont.” These wooden shingles, commonly used to decorate houses in the region, create a unique and visually striking effect. By incorporating this local tradition, the designers aimed to honor the area’s cultural heritage while harmoniously blending the modern architectural form with the surrounding landscape.

Eco-Friendly Design, Naturalistic Aesthetics

Gont’s design philosophy emphasizes a deep respect for nature and the environment. The studio has meticulously chosen natural materials for both the architecture and the interior, reflecting their commitment to eco-friendly design and reducing the use of chemicals. Every detail of this house showcases a love for nature and a concern for sustainability, making it a true reflection of the studio’s core values.

Entering the Welcoming Abode

The entrance area of Gont sets the tone for the entire interior. A full-length mirror and functional wardrobes for outerwear ensure practicality, while the glass-insert entrance door allows natural light to flood the space, creating a sense of openness and spaciousness. The floors and walls are covered with durable ceramic tiles, while the painted wooden paneling on the ceiling maintains a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Culinary Delight with a View

The Gont kitchen seamlessly combines functionality and coziness. A table for six, a built-in kitchen, and a large window with breathtaking mountain views provide the perfect setting for pleasant moments. The materials used, including wood for the floor and ceiling, local quartzite for the countertops, and Ukrainian-made decorative plaster on the walls, create a harmonious and visually appealing space. Wool light fixtures serve as accents, adding a touch of uniqueness and warmth.

Relaxation and Nature Immersion

The Gont living room is a haven for relaxation and immersing oneself in the surrounding natural beauty. Large windows offer panoramic views of the Carpathian mountains, which become an integral part of the decor. The room is furnished with a modular corner sofa, vintage armchairs, a coffee table made of natural oak, wooden vases, and a rug from a Ukrainian brand, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The fireplace, log storage, and TV ensure comfort and coziness, while the materials used are consistent with the kitchen, ensuring design continuity.

Rejuvenating Respite in the Bedroom

The Gont bedroom is designed for rest and rejuvenation. Double beds with designer headboards, wardrobes, a bench, hangers, bedside tables, sconces, and curtains provide comfort and functionality. To enhance coziness, the designers have carefully selected Ukrainian home decor brands, such as GUSHKA pillows and Basny Rugs. The bedroom exudes a sense of safety and tranquility, creating a serene environment for the occupants.

Modern Convenience in the Bathroom

The cottage’s bathroom incorporates modern details, including a sink, mirror, shower, toilet, cabinet with appliances (boiler and washing machine), and a towel dryer. A window adds natural light, making the room even more appealing. The materials used, such as tiles from WOW Sweet Bars, ensure aesthetics and durability.

Gont is a captivating synthesis of modern design and natural beauty, where every element is meticulously crafted to harmonize with the Carpathian mountains and Ukrainian culture. This project showcases the studio’s expertise in creating eco-friendly and culturally-inspired spaces that celebrate the natural wonders of the region.
